I very much enjoyed this addendum to Wonder , for it added some much-needed insight into Julian's behavior towards Auggie. For me, it wasn't until the chapter containing Grandmere's story that I actually felt any understanding or affection for Julian. That one chapter redeemed him and showed the readers that, like Auggie, Julian has his own demons to slay. It plays into the concept of Wonder beautifully--it's not fair to judge someone based on what you *think* you know.
I read this book immediately after I finished 'Wonder', simply because it was a bonus content that came with the original story.
At first I was afraid that it would ruin the greatness of the previous book, but those feelings were totally unnecessary.
'The Julian Chapter' was a great way of realising that not everyone is as bad as they seem to be. Even Julian, the big bully from 'Wonder', was just a little boy after all.

the version of wonder that I read included this as a bonus. I liked it, but I am not 100% sure I believe Julian's transformation. Still, it's a good complement to Wonder

I think adding this chapter to the end of Wonder was great.
Obviously I didn't like Julian or his mother in Wonder. I thought they were both snobs and big jerks. That's a nice word, I'd actually call them worse but don't want to on here.
I now get why his mum did what she did but I don't agree. Trying to get a child kicked out of school just because your kid has nightmares is just wrong. She should of been helping Julian not focusing on August.
I understand Julian better now though. I don't agree with the things he did and said. He was such an asshole to August and Jack. He didn't even feel any kind of remorse until his grandmother told him her story.
Yes, I get kids bully but making all these pathetic excuses about why you do it is childish. If you're a bully own up to it. Julian did in the end which was good. I'm not sure if I like him but now I see his side of it I don't hate him.
His grandmother sounds awesome though.

A slightly gratuitous but understandable extension to the phenomenon that was/is Wonder. In this short story, Auggie's nemesis, Julian, gets to tell his side of the story which essentially involves Palacio using this snarky eleven year old as a megaphone to remind us that we're all just human beings/there are no good or bad people/actions have consequences/we fear what we don't understand/yadda yadda yadda. These are certainly important lessons to learn and I'm glad there's another story for kids from a bully's perspective (a la Twerp)...but if Julian said "peeps," "dude," "haters," "yo," or "like" one more time, I was going to lose my mind. I said it with Wonder and I'll say it again: why does Palacio make these fifth graders act like posturing middle schoolers?

I liked seeing what Julian's point of view on the story Wonder was. We never really got to know him in the original book, so getting a sneak-peak on his reasons to do what he did was nice.
