I adored this book. It was quiet and introspective, and the protagonist gave the reader an intimate look at the calm and the abstract horror that it would be to suddenly find yourself in her situation. As far as post-apocalyptic stories go, this is as close to perfect as it gets to suit what I wanted to read.

When I was a teenage misanthrope I used to fantasise about finding myself in a world like this. Thankfully, it never came to pass. Being a little older, who would have thought, grants you a little perspective. I would have loved this book then, and I love it now, for other reasons. A book to re-read from time to time, and see who you've become along the way.

Boring, uneventful, and mundane. Literally just a lady alone talking about the chores she has to do. Nothing insightful about this read, unfortunately.

• somewhat long winded and very slow, but such an eye-opening reflection on life and being human and loneliness and especially loss
• the deaths
  in the book are hinted at long before the events come, so nothing is a shock, it just leaves you in a state of mild dread which feels similar to the character’s emotional state
