A short and sweet story that I hope to see more of. The world has an interesting setting and rules by which must be followed to survive.

What I liked:
The world had a dark feeling of otherness to it that rarely comes up in fiction, but which I desperately love. Sanderson is a master of world building, and I'm pretty sure anyone can learn a lot from reading any of his stories.
As time has gone on, Sanderson's characters seem to have gotten deeper and deeper. I'm impressed with how real and vibrant he can make people in the short length of a novella.
Other observations:
It's a bit darker than usual for Sanderson. I loved it, but plan your reading accordingly if you're sensitive to when you read work of a certain tone.
Summary:
Fantastic. It's a quick read, with dark world building and engaging, relatable characters. I highly recommend it for any fan of Sanderson, Dark Fantasy, or speculative fiction in general.

What if there were ghost stories, only they feel real, and they’re set in the Cosmere?
Creepy, not even all that Dreadful (I’m looking at RoW), but definitely has the haunted ghost feel to it, and strangely enough, the greatest vibes did not come from ghosts itself.
Brandenson writing is mostly solid, and it’s true here as well (though there are some loose ends that should have been woven in - but I admit, that might cause it to become a full length book at that point)

Set in a world of a people who fled to Hell, in escape of the unnameable and indescribable Evil, Shadows for Silence in the Forests of Hell explores themes of family, crime and survival. Despite its length, this short story leaves a lasting impact.
