I like Sanderson's take on dangerous women. The main character is Silence. She's the middle-aged owner of an inn that's in an extremely dangerous place surrounded by a forest full of Shades, which are like ghosts, but worse. Her goal is survival, her own and that of her daughters. She's also a bounty hunter, and totally awesome. I loved getting to know her. She's a complicated person with quite the history.

But despite the story being set in the Cosmere, I don't think we'll see Silence again. We will likely be revising this world, though. And I'm very happy about that. It's fascinating yet terrifying, and there's a lot of it left to explore.

Finally, I can't say enough how much I love Sanderson's ability to accomplish so much in just a novella. A complete story, a new world and a great protagonist, all without the novella getting too dense. What more could a person ask for? I highly recommend this novella and others by the author, especially The Emperor's Soul.
