Animal Farm is one of those books (like Catch-22) that has found itself so ingrained into mainstream intellectual and popular cultures that I knew the point of the story (the-pigs-become-like-humans-and-take-over-the-farm-capitalism-allegory) without having ever read it.

Since it was never actually assigned reading during my middle school or highschool curriculums, I hadn’t gotten around to actually reading it until now.

The forward (introduction?) of this edition made it extra worthwhile. George Orwell might find himself as one of the great “legislators” as far as author/poets go. His work might end up setting guidelines and boundaries of socially acceptable behaviors. Or else he might not be one of these “legislator” creative writers after-all and instead he may be something closer to “prophet” with his dystopian satires that are starting to read as speculative fiction in the 2020s.

The high quality of narrator performance in this audiobook production pushes my experience of Animal Farm from 4.5 to 4.9 (or solid 5 Stars)

Smart and brilliant depiction of communism. Somewhere (on the back of the book, I think) I read that this was “a fairy tale for adults”, and that is an apt description. It tells the tale of power becoming corrupt through fairy tale like prose. Again, brilliant.
