As a very emotional and empathetic person, I cried while reading it. However, Animal Farm can tech the reader a lot about people, power and societies.

I am seeing a pattern of 5 star reads this year. Banger after banger. Another re-read of a novel I read in my youth. Animal Farm was assigned reading in 8th grade, as I am sure it was for many other children where I live. I didn't remember much about it and thought it would be a more difficult book to get through. I was always a fan of assigned reading as a kid--"The Catcher in the Rye", "Fahrenheit 451", and "The Bell Jar" remain some of my all-time favorite novels. I remember my dad sitting me down to watch "Watership Down" when I was a girl and I hated it. I assumed reading this book had been the same, but again, I couldn't remember.

Re-reading was a pleasant surprise. Short and to the point, Animal Farm doesn't beat around the bush. It's direct, it's easy to read, it says what it means. An important read for everyone, now more than ever.
