Mindless, formulaic, very contrived, standard serial fare. Oh well - mindless was what I needed.
Would have been a Four star review until the CHEEEEEEEEEEEEESY predictable ending. Liked the characters and the overall story. Villain was a surprise to me. I have started Private London and am confused why the books are in the “order” they are on Goodreads. Why is Private Games considered book three. Seems like Private London should have been third. I enjoy reading series in order so we will see.
This book was very good. I hope that none of the athletes chose this as airplane reading on their way to London.
Part of me didn't want to like this book - blatant capitalization on the games - but it was a great read.

Set in London for the Olympic Games. In the third instalment of the Private series Jack plays a small part behind the scenes as the London team of Private take the lead. I missed Jack not being the lead character.
I didn’t guess who Cronus was so it was a great twist but at 478 pages it was way to long and drawn out. I started skimming the last 100 pages to see how it all came together.

Great book. I really love the Private series. Can't wait for the next one!
Private Games is a 4* Action Thriller.
Plot
2012-this was one of the most patriotic times I’ve ever felt in my life. To have the Olympic games in London was just spectacular and when I read this book it reminded me of those times: the opening ceremony, Jessica Ennis winning gold at the heptathlon, Usain Bolt speeding down the 100m track and Mo Farah winning the 5000. It was absolutely amazing.
This is probably why this book horrified me but astounded me at the same time. The details that Patterson went in were sublime; it highlighted his tentative detail into his books and this was further shown through the acknowledgements at the end of the book. The Olympic Games were treat with great care and fortunately no lunatic tried to sabotage the games in real life but it shows the true perspective.
Characters
Dan Carter- I don’t want to spoil it but as you’ve probably read the description of this book (and read the one before: Private London) and noticed that Dan Carter is not there. My main man from the last book was gone. Where is he you may ask? He is dead; it was described in three lines or less and to me I loved Dan Carter and his ways. But he was dead and there was minimal explanation how Peter Knight got to the “centre of the pack”. Dan Carter had forged relationships between his ex-wife and many other counterparts. When I realised he’d been killed and it was not a hoax or a fake, I was completely astounded. :(
Peter Knight- the loveable action-packed dad. I didn’t bond as strongly as I usually do with this main protagonist because I was thinking about Dan Carter for at least half this book. Still, I did empathise with his single parent situation whilst balancing a kick ass job. It must have been hard and the way the subject of Kate (his wife) was treat; it was quite beautiful.
Jack Morgan- my bad ass American that I’ve loved since book 1. I cannot wait until it is another Jack Morgan, I’ll have to look on Amazon to see what the next one is because I don’t want to leap frog a major plot change. I miss the relationships, the American lifestyle and just everything about a book centred on Jack Morgan.
Overall, the plot was quite predictable (boo!) in some places and with woven in chapters from the murderers, it usually doesn’t lead you straight to the answer but in this one it did. However, there were a few good red herrings that prevented me from masking the true killer (whey!) and it was actually quite a great read!
