It's the 2012 Olympic Games, held in London, and well respected security company Private are responsible for ensuring the security of athletes, observers and the organising committee. When one of the lead organisers is found brutally murdered, Private investigator Peter Knight is called in to help figrue out what happened and try to keep the Games safe. It soon turns out that the murderer has a bigger plan in mind, and the world is left wondering who will be targeted next.

I've just looked this book up in GoodReads to help write my description for the start of the review, and the blurb in Goodreads is different to what happened in the book I actually read. I've never come across that before. I presume it's due to differences in versions but seems very odd given there's more than just a name change. I've not been able to find any real explanation for it.

This one was pretty much par for the course for a Patterson novel. It's fast paced and keeps you turning pages. I wasn't overly sold on it though, hence the lower than usual rating.

I liked the concept, the idea of a terrorist attacking the Olympic Games because of a belief that the integrity has been compromised. I'm sure there are many people (less murderous ones) out there who could agree with aspects of that thought process! I personally don't take enough of an interest to have an opinion either way. Things did get a bit out there though, and the final scene with the lightning strike actually had me laughing out loud at it.

The issues I had with this were that I really didn't like Peter Knight, or Karen Pope, and so a lot of the story just annoyed me. Peter seems to spend pretty much the whole book whinging about not having a nanny to look after his children (because they all quit because his kids are hard work) - here's a thought mate, they're your kids so maybe you should stay home and look after them like most other families have to! Pope was just the typical reporter, story comes first at the cost of the police investigation and the chance to save lives. You all know I have no time for that.

As I said it's a pretty standard Patterson style novel, and fits well with the rest of this series as far as I've read. Not my favourite, but I've got plenty more on my shelves waiting to be read so they'll continue to be my breakers when I need something easy reading.

I don't know why I didn't like this book more. For some reason I just couldn't get into the characters. It was still good, just not the usual unstoppable, easy reading, page turner I expect when I pick up a Patterson novel.

Page-turner. Obviously. I finished it in a day.

Bought this before the Olympics (the real one) started. Would've been a nice read then but got too busy.

Love it!!

Not terrible, but I'm still not 100% sold on the "Private" series.
