This was a real struggle to get through. A stream of consciousness from both characters + switching between two timeliness did not work for this book at all. Had no idea what was going on most of the time and it was a struggle with so many background characters to keep track of that I gave up.
The love Mason shared for Deaton was strongly felt but I didn't really get a feeling that he loved Payton which after 300 pages I feel I should have done.
Perhaps one issue is that the characters were too young. 17 and 19 perhaps?
May have worked if they were aged up slightly but the writing was still not easy to grapple with so perhaps not

This book was so good. Mason is actually perfection and i never want to leave this world

Highly anticipated read for me and this book had me hooked from start to finish. Nothing will top the first book “say you swear”. But this is still a 5 star read for me.
