Promise Me Not

I am so sad this book fell so flat for me since I LOVED the first one.

Peyton dealt with so much trauma and grief so I understand that things take time but this book felt exceptionally drawn out. I know the MFC was a teenager but it felt extremely immature for someone that has gone through so much in their life. The WORST part was never saying the things out loud and the miscommunication.

Mason was wonderful and his LOVE for little D did make my heart happy.

*PS- this was my first audiobook so maybe I would have felt a little different if I read it traditionally

This is the second book in the Boys of Avix series, "Promise Me Not". It is an emotional rollercoaster that delivers everything I hoped for and more! After being captivated by Noah Riley in the first book, I didn’t think Meagan Brandy could top it, but she has crafted a heart-wrenching, yet beautiful love story that envelops you in and has you rooting for all the characters along the way.

This book is a perfect mix of angst, healing, and undeniable chemistry. The brother's best friend (Mason) trope is always a favorite of mine, and when you add in the single mom (Peyton) dynamic and a hero who has his heart set on more than just college football, it makes for a powerful read. Watching the lead character fall for his friend’s little sister, who is still grieving the loss of her first love, is both heartbreaking and breathtaking. The depth of emotion here—his patience, understanding, and love for her and her child—completely won me over. We adore Mason and his undeniable love for Deaton!

The single mom trope hits hard, especially as she’s been through so much loss, and seeing Mason step in, not only as a friend but as someone who wants to build a future with her and her son, is simply beautiful. The little moments with her son are some of my favorite scenes. Meagan Brandy really knows how to pull on the heartstrings while balancing the tension and romance.

Mason is able to continue to pursue his dreams while adjusting them to involve both her and her son— It melted my heart and made me root for them all the way through. If you're a fan of college football, slow-burn romances, and second chances at love, "Promise Me Not" will steal your heart.

I can't wait for more in this series! I'm ready for Chase's redemption arc!

If you want a book to rip out your heart, tear it to pieces, and then put it back together again, then this is the book for you. Mason is such an over the top, he falls first and hard hero. What he is willing to go through to show his devotion and love for Payton is inspiring. Payton has gone through so much and I have wanted her book since we saw her in Defenseless Hearts. And her story is heart wrenching but that happy ever after makes it all worth it. Be ready for all the angst and all the tears.

not as sad as the first book and a little more cringe - thought the premise would hit more for me bc it had (kind of) the same premise as love unwritten but didn’t do much for me

"I love her, Deaton. I love her with everything I am, (…). That no matter what I do and no matter how much time passes, she'll never truly love me back, because at the end of the day, I'm not you. You left, but she didn't let you go. She's holding on with all she's got, and I can't even hate you for it. I want to, but I can't. If she loved you this much, you must have been one hell of a guy, because she's an anomaly."

"I'm scared."
"Not as scared as I am."
"What if I hurt you?"
"I'll forgive you."
"Promise me."

"I promise you."

I loved Mason’s story and learning more about Payton’s history. I enjoyed seeing how strong their friend group is and how they all stepped in to help Payton.
