Promise Me Not

Welp, this book wasn’t as good as the first one but maybe that’s because I went from crying on one page to reading a sex scene on the next and that was just a lot of whiplash for me.

I had really high expectations for this one. Unfortunately it fell pretty flat for a lot of us I think. There was just something off about it. It felt like it was taking foreverrr to finish reading it. It was the slowest of slow burns with a quick ending.
medium-paced

I just finished Say You Swear and HAD to dive into the second Boys of Avix book. I thought the past and present scenes were done so well, especially because the past was during the events of Say You Swear. The build up for Mason and Payton’s relationship was a bit slow but there was healing needed first and the friendship connection was deeply special. I loved how Mason loved Deaton as if it were his own and how Payton gradually opened herself back up.

decent book, not at good as say you swear but still good!! the nickname ‘pretty little’ though, wasn’t a fan

Honestly the time line had me a little confused it was so jumpy but overall I really enjoyed Mason and Peyton’s story

I was eagerly awaiting this one, and whilst I'm not disappointed, I definitely have thoughts. It's unfortunate that Say You Swear was so good because no matter how hard you try not to, you are going to compare the two, and there really is no comparison. That book and how it made me feel is rare, and there is no other MMC like Noah so it's already unfair to this story BUT I did really like it, I was just left wanting more.

Mason was an absolute sweetheart. He made this book. He was unbelievably patient and caring. Even when he was in pain, he put everyone else first. His insecurities were a surprise and were truly heart-breaking. He had me fully in my feels, and his relationship with Little D was precious. Payton had such a sad story, and I really felt for her, but I couldn't help but be annoyed at her for the way she was treating Mason. It was so undeserved. She obviously had a lot to deal with, and that was her way of doing so, but it just got to be a lot, and I ended up hurting more for him than her. My issue with the story is that I don't feel like we really got to see them as a couple. The dual timelines helped us understand their relationship and how they got to where they are in the present. It built the angst and tension, but it was 90+% before they got together, and that was such a shame because they had so much potential. And, the burn... This is the slowest burn I've ever read. When it finally hit, it was great, but again, missed potential from Mr Mason Johnson. I wanted to see his flirty, dominant, and confident, happy side, but then the book was over! The Avix U world and characters are all great. They really add an extra sprinkle of fun to these books, and the Noah crumbs were everything!

Overall, I really enjoyed it for the story it was, but I'm sad that we didn't get more from the two as a couple. It was still a great story, and I would recommend it and read it again.

I think the writing for sure had an improvement but I don’t like the way the plot developed. still a good read!! so ready for the next book
