This standalone was completely different from the first Tommy & Tuppence mystery I read previously and enjoyed. I wasn't expecting a dark and twisty tale, so this one surprised me. I enjoyed it though and found myself drawn in completely. The eerie tone and overall mood of the story drove the plot, and contributed to the overall unsettling story that unfolded. The legend of Gypsy's Acre will no doubt haunt you for some time but it is well worth a read. Another excellent discovery courtesy of this year's Malice Domestic conference!

I felt like I had to force myself through the first 3/4 of the book. I really liked the end, which made me look back and appreciate some of the details at the beginning, but not enough to love this book. I guess it was supposed to feel like a slow buildup, but it felt like a drag until the end.
As usual, Christie's ending completely shocked me. I did not see that coming...

القصة مختلفة قليلًا عن قصص "أجاثا" المعتادة، هنالك جريمة بالتأكيد، إلّا أنّها لا تظهر في الصفحات الأولى وإنما في الآخيرة، كما أن طريقة عرض القصة تبدو لي مختلفة بعض الشيء، ربما كان السبب في ذلك كثرة طرح آراء الراوي واعتقاداته، وقلة الخوض في تفاصيل حياة الشخصيات الأخرى، على عكس بقية كتبها كما في سلسلة "بوارو" على سبيل المثال. أحببت جدًا أسلوب الطرح في هذه الرواية، إلّا أنني أستطيع فهم لماذا قد لا يُعجب الكثيرين.
أكثر ما أدهشني هنا الولوج في التفاصيل النفسية وإن لم يكن بشكلٍ علمي طبي، بل بشكل روائي سردي، كانت رواية ماتعة جدًا، وأحببت كتابة الشخصيات جميعها. انقصت نجمة كاملة لأنني أجد أنه كان من الممكن إختصار الأجزاء الأولى وكانت ستعطي نفس الانطباع المطلوب في نفوس القرّاء.
