Took too long to get to the murder and ending felt a bit of a cheat. I guessed the murderer except thought she wouldn't have him outright lie.
Christie's unique style shines in this gripping mystery. I loved the engaging dialogue, atmospheric red herrings, and the calm-before-the-storm vibe. A hallmark of Christie’s work is her surprise endings and plot twists and this book definitely lives up to that name. Moreover, Mike and Ellie’s love story and the exploration of loves adds depth beyond the mystery genre.
One drawback I found is that the characterization-heavy start of this book may test patience. The intricate build-up and interactions between the characters didn't seem entirely necessary for the eventual plot twists. Despite already being a pretty short story, I think this book could've cut down on around 50-80 pages worth of content and dialogue. However if you are willing to look past this, the eventual twists are very worth it in my opinion.
Overall, this book was a delightful read that I finished in just 3 days! I recommend this book for anyone looking for a quick, entertaining mystery with unexpected twists!

Dang you Agatha Christie! You fooled me again!
Dang you Agatha Christie! You fooled me again!
I think this book really reflects the writers disgust with greedy people. As always the characters and setting are perfectly depicted. The story is quite typical of AC, yet the ending is not. A lot darker in tone as well.
Agatha Christie is a Master, obvious statement but always true. This was a creepy story, that ended creepier.
Very, very good, almost a five star. A bit of an experimental novel from Christie, more exposition and place setting. The murder itself doesn't take place until over halfway through the book, and every clue seems a red herring - which should be a clue unto itself. I was so intrigued by the different pace and writing style that the slower opening did not bother me. Honestly, I felt the reveal to be a bit disappointing and not entirely surprising. I was hungry for some kind of resolution somewhere, anywhere, but once the reveal happened, there was no need for explanations. The remaining denoument felt a let-down. I would have preferred a more traditional Christie wrap-up. But... to each his own. All in all, excellent, though I would not recommend to a beginner Christie.
