Endless Night

Agatha Christie

The first two-thirds of this book left me wondering if, perhaps, I had found a Dame Agatha Christie novel I wouldn't enjoy. The writing was beautiful, as it always is with Christie, but the plot was so slow. I kept wondering, "Where's the murder? When's it going to happen?"

And then it happened and the last one-thirds was brilliant. Everything I thought I knew was turned upside down and I was left wondering why I hadn't guessed it earlier (I'd guessed a part of it, but the biggest twist totally blindsided me).

I did like the slow lead up for the first fifty or so pages. It was like setting the scene. I enjoyed getting to know the characters and started wondering right away who the killer might be. I also enjoyed the two main characters, Michael and Ellie. And Gypsy's Acre, of course.

I'd highly, highly recommend reading this. It's slow going at first, but it's well worth it.

The entire time this book had me wondering where it was going to go, very clever twist towards the end that made it for me.

Same concept as Murder of Roger Ackroyd, but not as well done, in my opinion. I didn't guess anything, but it just felt better done in Ackroyd! The beginning was a little slow, but I was still interested from page one. Gotta love Christie. Even her "meh" books for me are worth reading.

I enjoy Agatha Christie and her quaint characters with seemingly ordinary lives in quiet little villages.
This story moves from the ordinary to the extraordinary.
Mike appears to be a young man on a mission to live happily ever after and finally finds the love of his life. But is there really any such thing?
As always the author keeps us guessing right up to the end. Loved it

This was not my favorite Agatha Christie book. It is on the darker side kind of reminiscent of And Then There Were None in my opinion. I was confused by the rambling style of most of the book, but it made sense in the end. Just when I think I know how she thinks, she throws me for a loop yet again! As soon as I finished it I made my husband listen to the BBC dramatized version since he is not a reader. His response was that it was very messed up and he doesn't understand how I can read this stuff. I will admit that I prefer the happy endings of Murder is Easy, The Man in the Brown Suit, and others. But you still can't beat Agatha.

As usual there are several uses of d**n, b***h, h**l, and other mild swear words. There are references to sex and sex appeal, but no spicy scenes. One character is referred to as "God" with a capital g.

All I can say is GENIUS!!! It kind of reminded me of one other of her books which I won't say because it's potential spoilers for both books but I will say wow!! Slow burn not gonna lie but it was worth it and well done and a new favorite for sure! And the end was fantastic! The last stretch gave me chills and I absolutely loved it!!! Highly recommend for sure!

Interesting story. Wasn’t quite sure what the mystery aspect was going to be, but once it came, there were things I didn’t expect and I enjoyed that!

Once again, I’m reminded of how twisted/creative Agatha Christie’s mind must’ve been to come up with this stuff.
