I enjoyed this Agatha Christie mystery, but I didn’t love it. I think she has many other mysteries that are better. It was a quick read though, and overall it was enjoyable.

recomendo.

Even when I managed to successfully guess who the murderer was, the reveal still packed a punch!

If I remember correctly (I misremembered. I thought Crooked House was a Poirot novel.), aside from And Then There Were None (which was quite brilliantly written), this is the only standalone novel I have read from Christie yet.

This has a different feel when compared to other Poirot novels I have finished in the past due to it not being a typical whodunnit with several characters involved. It was, however, quite predictable, as I had an inkling of what might have happened. Of course, the reveal still had a little shock, but more on me guessing correctly with regards to the event.

A good one for anyone who knows AC only for quaint and cozy detective stories -- this is basically a gothic romance with a twist of mystery that's a little more like horror. A touch slow at first but second half is fire

I'm a big fan of Agatha Christie. I've been reading her books for years. It's not very often that I come upon one that I haven't yet read.

This book is unusual for her in that it's written in the first person. There was another book of hers that I read years ago (I've long forgotten the title) that also was in first person. In both plots, both narrators were the murderers. I hope I don't come across a third. It would be tiresome to see this plot device repeated.

The pace is a little slow until more than halfway through. That's the reason for the three stars. I was tempted to abandon it. After reading reviews on here about the amazing last few chapters, I decided to plod through, and it was worth it. It was a four-star ending. So 3.5 stars for me.

This wasn’t my favorite mystery/crime novel, nor was it a favorite of what I’ve read from Agatha Christie. It felt more like a character study than a mystery, only speeding up to a rather rushed and disjointed ending. I thoroughly enjoy Christie’s writing even if the story was a bit lackluster. Three stars it is!

A slow burn that had a fantastic ending. I had an inkling about Greya but not the full story. Very clever from the queen of crime.
