I hated the voice of the main narrator- and the way the story was meandering along without any discernable direction. I also disliked the instalove element. Also 50 pages in and no ones had died yet which was a big disappointment since that’s why I was reading this book. So I looked up spoilers for the book and found out what happens and also the ending- which was actually an interesting ending that I never would have guessed at, but now that I know the ending I don’t really feel like reading the book- also it seems a little bit like a cheap way to finish the story. This was a let down especially since it’s supposedly one of Agatha Christie’s favourites of her works. Disappointed but I will keep reading Agatha Christie’s other works since I have liked other works by her. All in all big disappointment, but I’m staying at a cabin right now so I’ll leave the book on the shelf here for the next person to pick up and hopefully like more than me.
I was so torn on how to rate this book. I would have easily given the book a 3/5 stars if it wasn't for the ending.
The first 2/3rds were far too slow for my liking. The premise of the book was that tragic accidents happen at Gipsy's Acre but it wasn't until halfway through the book that the characters even got there. Instead, the book read like a romance (which was not at all what I was expecting or looking to read) and not a great romance either.
On the other hand, the ending was fantastic. If it wasn't for the fact that I was reading this book on a bus, I probably would have screamed. The last third had all the twists and turns that Agatha Christie does so well and was probably one of my top five reveals. The only problem was how much difficultly I had getting to the interesting part of this novel; the flow of the book just isn't good and comes off as very disjointed. Despite this, I would still recommend it but I can't call it ones of her best books either.
