I've read many of Grisham's books, and I find that he often walks a fine line between preaching and creating a story in which the characters feel real. Unfortunately, this book tended more toward preaching. While I didn't disagree with his message, I feel he's better off writing non-fiction when he's taking this strong of a stance on any issue--and I've read his nonfiction, so I can say I feel he's better served by that genre than he is by fiction in these cases. It wasn't that I necessarily thought the book was poorly written, just that the narrator's voice came through so strongly that none of the characters felt like more than shells for Grisham to use in order to voice his opinion.

Exhilarating and moving first three-fourths of the book gives way to a slow and pointless end. Nonetheless, is a powerful volume.

Not Grisham's strongest work, but it was entertaining and I did feel for the characters involved. There weren't any real heart pounding moments since the danger was all to Donte Drumm and it felt inevitable from the beginning that he was going to be wrongfully executed. And Travis Boyette didn't really make for a great villain since he was appeared to be trying to help Drumm, even if it was for selfish reasons in the end. I'm not sure if danger was the only thing missing from this novel or if there was something else, but it definitely lacked the spirit of Grisham's biggest hits and left me wanting.

Not much to say about this one really. It started out like one of his earlier books and then just started to go down hill. There was just so much useless detail and I found myself doing a lot of skimming.

Back in May, I was recommended this as I was in the mood for and actively looking for a legal thriller. While I didn't get to it immediately after the recommendation, I'm glad that I finally got to it. There were a few parts that left me with my mouth gaped open.

Just ok. Not a page turner. Not one of his best, in my opinion. However, I finished it, and that is saying something becasue when I really don't like a book, I do not finish it. I don't have enough time in my life to read books I don't like. I DO try to give it enough time to really know if I don't like it or if it is just a slow starter.
