A cozy, cutesy romance story of two Cuban American teenagers, with a great emphasis on the desserts of Cuba and makes you crave some of those by the end.
Ana Maria aka Amy, our protagonist, an aspiring pastry chef, showed all the signs of being a teenage girl, going back and forth on so many different things, making assumptions about other people and their intentions, especially her own parents. Her love interest, Miguel, is a lovely aspiring photographer/cinematographer, and he's the balance to Ana Maria.
I enjoyed the story overall, even though there was nothing that stood out to me. It was a fun read.

Did I laugh out loud often? Yes! Was the family rivalry everything I wanted it to be? Absolutely! Was the "rivals to lovers" dynamic genuine, or was it one-sided? Read and find out! Guava and Grudges by the amazing Alexis Castellanos was such a fun read! I laughed so many times that I lost count. I also found myself hungry because the bakeries featured had some delicious food that I craved while reading the book. This was a cute and refreshing read compared to what I had been picking up before this one! The vibes reminded me of the Montague and Capulet rivalry, but without the tragic ending. Star-crossed lovers, anyone? If you are looking for a heartwarming, adorable, and quick read, I highly recommend checking out Guava and Grudges. It gave me everything I needed and more. I'm looking forward to reading more by Alexis!

Can I just say how cute and refreshing this book is? It's weird because it definitely has a star-crossed lovers vibe, but it's just cute and heartwarming and was just a nice, satisfying read (especially in January 2025).
