This book was recommended to me as a SK book that is not written in his usual style, and billed as a "warped, head trip, mind-fuck type of book." Ok, sounds good to me.

Overall, the story was unique and not what I expected. Because it wasn't what I would describe as "plot driven" you really got immersed in the trappings (pun intended?) of the main character. I didn't know what was going to happen next, because a lot of the time it was almost a combination of straight forward description mixed with stream-of-consciousness.

The lack of traditional plot both helped and hindered this story in my opinion. While it did lend it a unique feel and tone, it also unfortunately made the book drag at points. While not push to see "what happens next," it wasn't exactly a frantic page turner.

WHile I'm not a fan of SK due to writing style, I will say that this is the first book of his that I have actually enjoyed, so there's that!

"I'm out here alone, my husband is lying dead on the floor, and I'm handcuffed to the bed. I can scream until I turn blue and it won't do me any good; no one's going to hear."

"some other world where wives were not handcuffed and husbands did not refuse to listen and night-creatures did not stalk."

In so many ways, this book is brilliant. King’s treatment of the subject of child sexual abuse, alongside Jessie’s processing throughout her ordeal both physically and mentally, is incredibly well done. My main gripe is that it meandered along way too much after her escape. I also think it would’ve been a lot scarier if the grave robber/psychopath hadn’t been so explicitly portrayed at the end. Better to leave it a question, I think. But altogether an awesome read!

Being an avid Stephen King reader, I never thought I would give one of his novels less than 3 stars, but here we are.

This book was incredibly hard to finish, partially due to the graphic nature and the general disgusting premise of the main character's predicaments. I'm not going to give away any spoilers, but it was a pretty uncomfortable read.

The escape scene alone is enough to make me not want to watch the Netflix series.
