I have learnt things I didn’t need to know.

But I know them and I will inflict them on others.

Mostly the things people will put inside themselves and the fact that humans can live much much longer than you expected.

Overall this got a little repetitive and a tiny bit prudish but I don’t know if I’m allowed to judge what’s normal there.

Overall, this was certainly a good read. I like how it felt like I was the author (with the added commentary). However I definitely can see how this can. Be annoying to some. It got annoying at some parts, but I mostly laughed. Would reccomend.

I love this book, and plan to use the material at cocktail parties to weed out the milquetoast.

A fast and fun read through the bizarre annals of medicine. Think of this as a compilation of the strangest medical oddities and treatments. While I certainly enjoyed the read, I did wish for a little more analysis or nuance in the cases, but this read more as pure entertainment. Fascinating nonetheless.

Interesting compilation of strange medical occurrences and their treatments from the 1700s and 1800s. All I gotta say is: thank god I live in a world of modern medicine! In all fairness, there was a doctor quoted from back when acknowledging that when people in future times hear of their practices, they will think they are nonsensical or even rudimentary compared to the advances of modern medicine - same can be said of our current practices too! Lots of blood, bodily fluids and extensions of the truth - if you are in to that kind of thing ;)
funny informative slow-paced

It's a classic in the world of morbidly curious books for a reason. Significantly better than my expectations.
