Equally as good as Front Desk and deals with immigration issues so well. The author explains at the end the lengths she went to for research and the whole book is so well developed and always feels honest and never preachy. My 5th grader and 10th grader both really enjoyed it!

In a story of friendship and perseverance, Mia and Lupe face challenges of unkind hearts and day to day life of immigrants. The book had good lessons and an overall great story, but parts seemed to drag in places and others seemed to move too quickly.

This book spreads an amazing message about not only immigration but also about family and love. It was wonderfully written and the characters were so lovable. I’m happy to say that I diversified my reading, learned more about immigration in America, and got to enjoy an amazing story through this book.
