When the Viscount Wanted Me by Lydia Lloyd

I was trying to be open-minded about the fact that this is an age gap, brother's-best-friend romance. It's a trope I usually dislike, but I really enjoyed the first book in the series and wanted to see where it goes. We were doing okay when the MMC was very clear that he hadn't been attracted to her until she was like 20. But then during an intimate scene, the FMC admits she's been in love with him since she was 14 and that gave me the ick.

The FMC rubbed me all wrong. Very childish and I wasn't rooting for her at all.

Ahh! Lydia Lloyd is definitely one of my new favorite historical authors. I LOVED 'When the Duke Wanted Me' and knew that book two in this series would deliver. The love scenes are plentiful and hot!

I loved Henrietta! What a great heroine. It was refreshing to see such a curious, sex-positive heroine in a historical. I am coming to associate Lloyd's heroines as the key figures in her work, much like Sarah MacLean. Sure, the heroes are great. But the heroines are the stars of the show. .

This was such a fantastic brother's best friend historical. I can't wait for Lloyd's next book. She's definitely an auto-buy author for me now. Side note: go follow Lloyd on Instagram. Such a great follow and resource for finding trop-specific historicals.

I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for a review.

Trem and Harrietta have known each other since childhood. Henrietta has always had a crush on Trem but because he is her brother’s, best friend, she has always felt that he would not love her. Trem has always viewed Henrietta as his best friends little sister until one day his perspective changed. They began a love story that had to be kept secret, but that would help her in the end.

The book was entertaining. I enjoyed the book. I did like the characters and the angst. This is the second book in the series.

Lady Henrietta is the little sister of Viscount of Tremberly's best friend. He has know her since she was a child. Being that she is ten years his junior he has only ever thought of her as the little sister. When he hears a drunk earl blabbing about how he bedded Henrietta he takes control of the situation. Henrietta has always loved Trem. She knew there was no chance for her. If being the best friends little sister wasn't enough his reputation with women was. Now she finds herself about to be ruined because of a poor decision on her part. He agrees to help her and not involve her brother. What happens when Trem starts to see her for the woman that she has become? Can he save her reputation and prevent himself from falling in love with her at the same time? Good read.

"You're the only woman who could ever be my viscountess."

4 stars

Even though I enjoyed the uniqueness of this story, I'm disappointed to say that I didn't love this sequel as much as the first in the series. Henrietta was such a breath-of-fresh-air heroine; she was impulsive and a bit naïve but refused to be constrained by society's rules. Trem played the part of our handsome and charming rake, always available for a grand time and abreast of the finest gossip of the ton. However, one fateful conversation leads Trem to Henrietta's doorstep under the cover of darkness and changes their destinies forever...

I loved the first half of this story. Even though Trem and Henrietta's relationship seemed to progress rather quickly, I found it believable because of their shared history, which only added to the sexual tension that swiftly blossomed between them. Their clandestine assignations were some of the most heated scenes I've ever read (especially the breakfast room scene

Well, Lydia Lloyd has made a fan out of me. This is the first book by her I've read, but the second in a series. I loved that at no point did the men in Henrietta's life--her brother and her brother's best friend--ever try to blame or shame her for sleeping with a man out of desire. It's historical romance, afterall, so she's expected to marry the man she "loses her virtue" too, but Henrietta is a smart and capable heroine who knows that she should not marry a man she does not love, and sex is not love.

The man she DOES love is her brother's best friend. Another aspect of this novel that I enjoyed is Henrietta's relationship with Trem, the man she's loved since she was fourteen. The two do have a passionate relationship (so much sex in this book), but they also have lots of long talks, and get to know about each other's families. They support one another. As a reader, you want them to end up together, and there is no doubt that they belong together.

I really can't wait to read what Lydia Lloyd has in store next.
