This was a really lovely read, by reflecting (but not dwelling) on her past Galdinia discovers the secret to overcoming grief and betrayal all while struggling with her lack of powers.
This book just goes to show that familiar loss can be devastating and to never rush judgement on anybody.
This book is a very, very, very slow wind up, but the friendships, alliances and suitor finding makes it all worth it in the end!

The fact this is Megans debut novel is kind of shocking because the writing was incredible and I am sooo sucked into this world and already hanging for the next instalment!
So after the loss of her father Galdinia is left as heir to the Throne - she thought all she had to worry about was her magic butttt daddy dearest (RIP) had other plans so now little miss independent (who may or may not already be in love with someone else anywayyy) has to get married ASAP to keep the crown 😉
Oh and did I mention that a bunch of people are out for blood fighting her for her rightful place as Queen so all hell is breaking lose with war on the horizon while greiving the loss of her father, having a handful of eligible bachelors thrown at her, learning who to trust and how to rule her lands... AND this all takes place over ONE WEEK... so ya gal really needs to kick it into gear 🤺
I loved the world building and the characters - including sassy best friends that encourage drunken escapades 🍷 and the banter between Gal and her unwanted suitors had me giggling so much! The magic system is unlike most I've read about before and I can't wait to see more - this is the first in a trilogy so there is definitely alot of "setting the scene" and laying down little plots and hints on how things might go...
* Also I'm not one to guess what's coming next or expect twists and turns, and so when a certain twist happened I was FLOORED *
The ending has set us up perfectly for some big things in book two, there are some little cliffhangers, some questions left unanswered and leaving you wanting more - but also for the main part there is a bit of a happy ending and it's wrapped up nicely (for now...?) 😉

The FMC is complex and relatable with a loyal and loving BF. The world building and magic system in this series is simple to follow. There is good detail throughout the story without it becoming overwhelming/taxing to read.
I very much enjoyed this book and I am looking forward to the second book in the series.

I loved this book! The magical system is somewhat unique and not seen a lot which I really enjoyed. the FMC Galdinia is a badass, and a sweetheart. I'm so glad for the temple moment. There wasn't enough connection with Dryston to hope for an HEA with him. I'm sobbing at the thought of her losing Bentley though. I need book 2 ASAP!

I really enjoyed the story. It was a bit slow to start but once it did was really enjoyable. It was nice to see a strong female character that grew into her role and was supported and loved by everyone around her.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and seeing Galdinia evolve as a character. By the end of the novel she had gone through so many times of character growth, making her self the leader she wanted to be.

Super stoked to be able to read this as an ARC and this was such a good one! The ending left me wanting the next book in my hands NOW. I can’t believe we have to wait to find out what happens next!
It was predictable in the way where I could roughly guess what would happen and where the book would go but there were also plot twists and turns that the story took that I didn’t see coming.
I was rooting for Bentley and Galdinia sooooooo much at the start. And the moment Valah mentioned the Edges, I just KNEW he was a traitor :(
