I love Grace Draven's writing. Master of Crows is an excellent read, and the perfect example of fantasy romance done right.

Really hate to give a Grace Dreven book a less then stellar rating but I just didn't enjoy this one as much as other her books probably because this was her debut ??? The world building is as expected, the characters are also fascinating but I felt like there was so much time spent on the build up and finding a way to stop Corruption however the battle at the end didn't live up to the hype....

Quibbles: I hated that scene with that courtesan, perhaps if it had come early on the book it would have been slightly better but its like smack dab in the middle and that point they both have feelings for each other and the whole changing her to look her Martise was also NO NO...I'm glad he didn't go through with it but....

Loved it!!!!!!
The smaller cast of characters, the setting (anyone else think of southern Spain?), the pacing and language are great. I enjoyed that Martise wasn't the beautiful female lead we've gotten used to, and that it was her wit and talents that got to Silhara and made her unique. As for Silhara ... oooh, boy! I liked his connection with Neith, the crumbling manor and the oranges
Spoiler(and was devastated when the god destroyed them.)
I loved the friendship between him and Gurn, and the connection Martise made with Gurn.

I didn't mind the lack of explanation about "Bursin's Wings." To me it felt more like an expression of frustration than a prayer to a deity in particular. However, someone should have washed the poor dog!

I wish the book was still in print - it has a gorgeous cover and I'd love to read it in a physical format. I also wish there was more in this world to read.

3.5 — was having a hard week and just really needed some escapism and this definitely fit the bill! I ate upppp the first ~half, really beautiful writing (prob the best use of language I’ve read in this genre), enticing plot, and interesting characters. Veryyy romance heavy which I enjoyed but the plot kinda took a backseat so in the last like 50 pages I was a little lost. Also not a fan of the power imbalance, felt icky at times and MMC was pretty toxic ngl lmao. Overall enjoyable, but still on the hunt for the perfect fantasy romance with the right balance of each genre.
