i enjoyed this enough that i'll probably read the sequel when it comes out, but there was real tonal whiplash throughout this book, and though it contains some REALLY dark scenes, the narrative voice still felt YA to me in a way which really didn't work with all the trauma and sexual assault that occurs.
Spoilerthe tone misled me enough that i assumed we WOULDN'T be getting a ghost molesting a twelve year old child in a public bathroom and yet ... here we are.
but i am always here for a story unpicking privilege!

This took me so much longer to finish than any of her other books. I felt that the twist was predictable.

This is one of the only books I gave out at our wedding that I hadn't read. I love Leigh Bardugo, but I tried to read it right after Caitlin died and it was too much death and Yale (Caitlin was so proud to have gone to Yale) that I couldn't finish it. But I loved the style and the author and knew I would love the book too.
Now that I have been able to read it, I did love it. I can't wait to pick up Hell Bent.
I will follow Bardugo to Hell and back.
Literally.
