Still a five out of five stars for me. I absolutely love this book!!
An enjoyable read, though not spell binding enough to want to rush to read the sequels. I will get there, eventually.
The writing was smooth. The transition between one sentence to another, had no awkwardness to it. Personally speaking.
That said, I find it hard to understand sometimes. I would have to reread the paragraph a few times to understand it and that irks me because it broke the momentum I had going.
I liked the bits of Vernier's Account which brought light to some events that happened from one part to another and it also served as a summary of what was going to happen in that particular part.
The plot in itself was alright. Nothing stood out to me. Vaelin, the main character is someone I'd equate to John Snow and the Order equivalent to the Night Watch.
I feel like the author is trying his hardest not to make Vaelin a Gary Tsu by making him excellent in one aspect but only "adequate" in others. The whole thing felt forced though.
While I did not find any of the characters bewitching, The King has to be the most interesting character in the book. He's not exactly a bad king. He is pretty just. However, he takes advantage of a situation and manipulate people to do his bidding. He create lies to get what he wants.

I tried to finish this book, I really did. I have several friends, whose opinions I value, that love it. I read nearly 200 pages and I really never cared about what was going on. Nothing more than mild interest. I've wanted to read this for a long time too. It's very disappointing. I actually feel more than a bit guilty...

This was too boring for a story of a warrior.

Excellent fantasy as always. Incredible fantasy author, the worlds he builds are so lush and full, so believable, the characters are fully formed and feel real, the plots and intrigue are so interesting and complex. Love love love his books.

Loved the book great ending even if I feel sorry for all that transpires. Great book loved the world building and all the characters we get to know. Finishing this book leaves me wanting more and I can’t wait to read the next book.
