Was this the best fantasy book? No, but I did enjoy it.
It was a bit sluggish at first then it picked up and really kept me entertained.
I also cried during some parts. The battle scenes were okay. I expect more from battle scenes and this book didn’t deliver in that aspect.
I did like the time jumps from present to past. Well done

Dit boek lag al een hele poos half gelezen aan de kant. En eergisteren heb ik het er maar weer bij gepakt. Het is best een goed verhaal (wel met heel veel personages), maar omdat ik het zo makkelijk kon wegleggen krijgt het een 7. Hier dus een 8 omdat een 6 te weinig is.

I really enjoyed this! What a good start to a fantasy series. Vaelin Al Sorna is a great protagonist, all the characters were well done (even the ones you don't like!), and the twists and turns were largely unexpected.
I wish there had been a little more clarity with the timeline, it was hard to keep track of how old Vaelin is or how long certain events took.
