My initial reaction is to just sit here and stare at a wall in shock. I’m not sure what I expected when I started this book, but it was so much more complicated, so much more twisted than I could have imagined.
There’s almost nothing I could say without giving spoilers or depriving you of learning just what’s going on on your own.
So, I’ll keep it simple. If you liked the movie Blast From the Past, you’ll probably like this book. If you followed he stories of Jaycee Duggard, Michelle Knight, Amanda Berry, and Gina Roderiques with a horrified fascination, you WILL love this book.
I have the sequel and I’m about to pull it out (this was a pretty quick read). I read a review that said it was unnecessary and not as good, but I’m not one to leave a series unfinished.

Even though this had a slow start, the ending is where it’s at!
Slow start and a little confusing in the beginning but overall a good read, had a lot of good twists and it really got my blood pumping.

This plot twist in this book was completely unexpected for me! I had my jaw dropped on a couple different occasions when reading, and even goosebumps at one point. The reason for my rating is I just felt like the main character Eli had such a wild 180 flip in character/values that it became difficult to stay enthralled in the story. I think had the change in character been more gradual, it would’ve been more believable and realistic.

The story felt unfinished. While it was a good read, I wouldn't read it again.
I'm a sucker for dystopian stories. Picked this one on a recommendation from a YA librarian. Nice, quick read. The main character was kind of a douche, but not enough to make me put the book down. I was intrigued by the crazy dad. Looks like there's a sequel and I'll probably pick that up when I need another quickie.
This concept is fantastic. The story feels interesting because the author build a world worthy of learning about. With characters to love along side that. You spend the book craving answer and wanting to read more. Something I must read again.
