The premise of this book was somewhat far-fetched, and I could see how readers might lose interest at the beginning, especially if they picked it up because it was supposed to be a thriller, since most of the beginning is taken up with demonstrating how self-centered the main character, Eli is. Then, at the end of the book, it might frustrate readers, or, at least it frustrated me, a little bit that Eli suddenly shed his brattiness to use not only his acknowledged superior wits to free his family, but also his new-found compassion.

Those things said, I think that the idea of this book was interesting, and it was definitely entertaining. I borrowed the audio recording of it from the library to listen to in the car while commuting, and it definitely made me less reluctant to go to work! :)

I had a few qualms with the logic of it at times, and it felt like there would be a well done foreshadowing sentence but soon the tension was cut with a clear answer and it was disappointing.

It was good but a little choppy. It had a good theme and could've have gone farther with more suspense but it fell flat at the end, which made me change my mind about giving it a four.

The story felt unfinished. While it was a good read, I wouldn't read it again.

this book would be a very good book club book.A very good book

This is one of the stranger books I've read in awhile. Then again, I haven't read anything un-school-related in a long time. It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't fabulous. Quick read.

Well it was compelling. I read it very quickly and couldn't put it down. But there were few surprises and the author just doesn't have very much of the subtlety in storytelling and character development that makes a great book. The narrator tells us about his conclusions and we don't ever have to do the work of drawing our own. The author also depends on conveniences for storytelling. It is pretty easy to dismiss potential problems when your protagonist is the son of the world's 3rd riches men.

I really wanted this book to be better than it was. I randomly picked it up from B&N and expected a lot more. It was a really intriguing idea to begin with, but as the book progressed the plot just deteriorated.
