Filip was never my favorite, but it was interesting to watch him build a new life from scratch after walking away from the Free Navy and after the destruction of the ring gates.
The ending of Leviathan Falls left me wanting in that regard, and even though we got an epilogue from after the millennium, I found myself wondering to myself how each of the 1300 handled their isolation, wondering to myself how traumatic it would be to be so suddenly and utterly left alone. So I liked getting an inside look here at what isolation from the rest of the galaxy and every other planet in the ring network looked like, at least where Filip was.
I'm sad that this is the last we'll get of the Expanse, but still, this was well written and a decent way to tie up some of the loose ends, though it didn't tie up the loose ends that I necessarily wanted. The Roci crew, all in all was who I wanted to read about in the time that followed the destruction of the rings gates, but I guess Filip will suffice.

Now this is a great coda. I wasn’t a fan of the ending of the ninth book, it didn’t really add anything, for me. This, though, is elegant and mollified one of my gripes with the series: What happened to Naomi’s son, though?
What begins as something I feared would be just some distant struggle on a biome, becomes a nuanced snapshot of trauma and a question that is at the heart of the series, which sometimes gets lost amongst the action. Where are we going, as a species. Our survival hardcoded helps sometimes, but also hinders us. What happens here can be viewed in two different ways. Is the outcome predetermined by trauma, and it was the ‘wrong’ thing to do? Or, was it an action that might actually give the settlement a better shot, and the others just do not have the viewpoint to know that.
In a way, it makes me even more annoyed at the epilogue from the main book, because this is simply a much, much better ending.

Tied up a loose end to the expanse series that I had been thinking about since book 5. I've been missing this series and couldn't believe it when I discovered there was an epilogue novella I never knew about and that it had answers to some of my biggest questions about the series. I like what it did with this character and can forgive that I had to spend so much time wondering where he was and when he was gonna show up again.
