I haven't been this excited about a thriller in years. Even though I feel I have outgrown Colleen's writing style, this book made it for me.

'Verity' questions us where the truth stands. Is a writer always mirrored in his characters, or can he create outside himself? How far does the manipulation go? The obsession? And can you believe anything else when the suspicion is already creeping in?

The plot twist was a master's move.

I love when books leave something the ending open for interpretation, which is exactly what Verity does.
Honestly the twist with the letter at the end makes you question it all, I think jeremy did try to kill his wife, but i dont know if the autobiography was faked

I didnt like any of the characters except crew who has my heart, but I think that was intended

I didn’t want Verity to end. Though the beginning was slightly cliché, it wasn’t bad at all; in fact, it sucked me in so well, I won’t forget how it felt to start reading it on a snowy morning in the metro any time soon. I usually abhor the book-within-the-book trope, but I love it here, owing to how well Hoover switches the narration voice between the characters. There’s even a letter, its voice completely different from the two PoVs we’re given until that point.  It’s delightful. Plus, at least one of the women is unhinged, so if that’s your jam, you’ve found your next read! Hoover does use haunted house tropes to create tension, but immediately makes logical explanations. If you’re like me in evading paranormal horror, worry not, there is none in Verity. I felt there were very few discordances in the book. I won’t detail them here, because I love the book, and they are very, very minimal.

Omg the ending ????? I feel like it was kind of contrived & a lot of the ~intimate~ scenes were gratuitous, weird and/or unnecessary. Fun & quick read though!

After reading this, my brain is broken. I was but expecting the ending. This book was just so awful (not in a “it was bad” way, but in a why kind of way). It’s just so dark. It was really good and really fascinating, but very dark.

Please read the Trigger Warnings (child violence, murder) for this book, it's quite graphic in places.
This book is definitely a thriller.
Although overall I didn't love the story, mainly because of the graphic content, it was very thrilling and I wanted to keep reading it to find out what happened/was going to happened. The way it's told with two books/pov throughout is really interesting and slowly brings out the story.

the woman was too stunned to speak

Well holy sh!t, I was not ready for that!

From the very first line, I was hooked.
The absolute brutality had my stomach turning at times, but CoHo's effortless writing style had me completely transfixed. Even at the most confronting moments, I couldn't stop myself..

I can't say the ending shocked me all that much though, but for the average reader, I can definitely see how it would blow your mind.

I highly recommend going into this one blind, with caution if certain sensitive topics are triggering for you.
