EASILY A TOP FAVE READ OF 2024!! I cannot begin to tell y'all how much this book blew me away. I’ve been a bit of a slump lately, but this book?! Pulled me right out of it and all because of the page-turning tension and banter between Soren and Jane—such a beautifully written romantasy, complete with so many explosive sp!cy scenes!! I'm super looking forward to the second and final book--fingers crossed for more Bones/Kathleen content!!

Slow Clap
Really well done slow burn of a book. Pacing is super good, writing is good. I like the building of the world and story, how slowly secrets are revealed and even the cliffy at the end (which made me yell OH COME ON). Can't wait for the sequel!

I enjoyed this read. Darker but not heavy. I was able to take my time and enjoy it. Cliffhanger but not the kind that makes you want to throw things. Excited for book 2!

2ND READ AUDIOBOOK
1ST READ REVIEW:
From the moment I saw that this book was a cross of The Witcher and Pirates vibes, I didn't need to hear anymore.
When I tell you that I was hooked from the beginning, I was HOOOOOKKKEEDDD. This is an exceptional example of the captive/captor trope done really well. Littered with endless tension, banter, and sexual pull, the two MC's had an undeniable dynamic and I couldn't get enough. Whether you were reading about the main characters or the other great characters, each had their own personality and hidden secret. Believe it or not, my favorite character is actually not one of the two MCs. OOPS! Not sorry.
Getting to the world-building, it felt complete and clicked together beautifully without feeling dragged on or dull. Captivated fully, I found the pacing to be medium to fast pace and the overall story flowed wonderfully.
This book is one that will have a permanent place on my shelf, as well as the future books in the series.
If you enjoy reading dark fantasy stories with a fierce FMC, an MMC that reminds you of Geralt of Rivia, and an unraveling story, please give this book a chance.
Definitely recommend.

Jane is a mystery and a force to be reckoned with. Soren is a mercenary and is tasked with getting Jane back to the Skulls Head counsil. He doesn't know why they want her and after observing her, he wants to know why. She doesn't easily fall for his tactics, but they make small deals along the way to get more information out of each other. Their attraction to one another is undeniable.
I love the book. Everyone has so many secrets and their own motivation, so it's hard to figure out who to trust. The story is amazing and the steamy scenes are hot! It ends on a cliffy and I can't wait for the next book.

So many secrets…so good!
This book was amazing! From the beginning, Charlotte grabs your attention and doesn’t let go even at the end. Jane is a full fledged mystery throughout the majority of the book. She’s got so many layers and so many secrets that you keep turning the pages hoping for a hint of who she is and why these powerful men are after her. She also has serious trust issues and anger management problems. Soren has been tasked with bringing her to the Council at Skull’s Row. The problem is that they won’t tell him why, and he refuses to be used as their pawn. At first, he plans to unravel Jane’s secrets simply to figure out why the Council wants her so badly. But it quickly becomes a burning desire to know who she is really because he wants to keep her. Her fear of death and of the Council is very real, but can she trust the dangerous man who was sent after her? Will he keep his word to protect her, or is he being the master manipulator that he claims to be?
I loved these characters so much! Jane is stubborn…so stubborn. She’s fiercely independent and self reliant. She’s honed self preservation and survival into a masterpiece. But there’s a pull to Soren that she can’t deny. His savagery and ruthlessness calls to her blood, and she’s helpless to resist him. But can she trust him? Soren was an amazing character. He’s so ruthless and unforgiving, yet the moment he sees Jane his world is turned upside down. She’s beautiful, fierce, brave, a little bit savage and doesn’t blink twice at his tendency to violence. She’s his every desire and weakness wrapped up in an enticing package. But his work is cut out for him in getting her to open up to him. There is danger brewing in the Council. Unknown dangers lurk in the shadows, and Soren has learned to trust his instincts and his magic. Both are telling him that Jane needs to be protected, and things are not as they seem at Skull’s Row. This one does leave off on a slight cliffhanger, and I cannot wait for book 2!
