I watched the movie 30 years ago - so much was unexplained. I should have read the book first. Now I want to watch the movie again. I think the book, despite being written more than 50 years ago, has aged very well. Sometimes reading old sci-fi is like watching a black and white movie. I felt this way re-reading Foundation. Not so with 2001. The book ends on a cliff-hanger of sorts, so now I also have to go read 2010.
This book reads better when context is considered. As a contemporary book, it's a straightforward story, much of which I've seen before. Except that this is actually the foundation of so much else I've read! The hotel scene was my favourite. I'm looking forward to continuing my amble around classic sci fi.

i finally picked up this classic after years of being harassed by my Dad, for whom this novel is a masterpiece that everyone should read. and to be honest, i kind of agree with him. i had such a great time exploring this story set in a future now in the past, and i found that the author's writing style was direct enough for me to understand the majority of this story's hidden messages.
Man given all its other differences from the film I was sure he wasn’t going to turn into a baby at the end. Shows how much I know
