For the first 70%, I found 2001: A Space Odyssey pretty boring. If I’d been reading it instead of listening, I probably would’ve put it down. The ape-men section dragged on way too long, and after that, all the characters seemed like the same guy with different names. I also struggled with the HAL arc—while I get why he’d want to eliminate the two crew members who didn’t know the real mission, I didn’t understand why he’d kill the others who were in cryosleep and already knew.

I gave it 3 stars because, while it didn’t fully connect with me, I can appreciate the ambition behind it.
