Hehehe, okay, okay!! Ruth, you out do every time! This read was 5/5 stars ⭐. The double sports storyline characters and then both the fmc and the mmc are athletes ⚽!! Now, let's get into Jack being head over the rocks, wait the right words would be head over heels for Kendra

I liked this a lot more than the first of the scorpions series (haven’t read the rest but probably will go back and do that now!). It was cute and fun, easy, light read with a great family component

AAAHHHHH... I have so many thoughts on this book. First, I wish Goodreads allowed for half points and a breakdown of different areas. I am going to say that this is an overall 3.75-star review.

Plot and storyline I would give this a 4 star or even higher on the overall concept. The story follows Jack Thompson, now Jack Morgan, in his first year in the NHL. After graduation, Jack spent one season in the minors before being called up to play for the Blade Kings, the team that his stepdad, Jon Morgan coaches. Jon spent the previous year making some major changes to the team and whipping them into shape because, unfortunately, the team had become the laughingstock of the NHL. Jack is now playing with Tyler, someone who went to school with him back in Seattle, and they played together in college. Let's just say, they were like oil and water from the start. Jack has worked hard to make a spot for himself in this sport and now he needs to continue to prove himself to demonstrate that he deserves to be in the NHL and not because his stepdaddy is the coach or because he now wears the last name "Morgan" on his back.

Kendra, is a rising athlete that has soccer, I mean football, running through her veins. She is the daughter and sister of football European superstars, and she wants to prove that women deserve a seat at the table in male-dominated sports as well. However, Kendra passed up the opportunity to play in Europe to follow a relationship she had invested years into. Now, she is the arm candy of her boyfriend and is set to the side when not needed. Kendra puts her worth above her relationship and dumps him; however, when it rains, it pours, and Kendra is having a string of bad luck. Lucky for her, she runs into Jack, the teammate of her ex-boyfriend who was always around in college but never really got too close. Jack offers Kendra help and wastes no time in letting her know that he saw her in college.

Things turn spicey really fast and Jack and Kendra's chemistry is off the page. I love the relationship that Jack quickly starts to build with some of his teammates, and they are dynamic enough that I am fully invested in learning their stories in the next two installments. Both Jack and Kendra are also very close to their siblings, and while I don't know how much of Kendra's brother we will see in upcoming books, I have a feeling that Felicity's daughter will be a heroine soon. This is great because, besides obviously seeing plenty of Jon in this series (as the coach of the team), I have a feeling we will have another book where Felicity is featured quite a bit.

The writing is where I would personally give it maybe a 2.5 or 3 star rating. I said the same thing when I read Boarded Heart. I was expecting more after all the hype I kept seeing all over social media. Well, after Dead Rinker and Ruled Out, I was expecting so much more from Perfect Deke, and the story execution just fell short. Maybe because it is the start of a new series and Ruth has to establish a lot in this book: the story of Jack and Kendra, the introduction of other characters and building interest in them so you want to continue the series, the transition from one series to the next and wrapping up a few loose ends from the previous series...I felt there was too much going on in the book to fit into the number of pages that were allotted and details were omitted. There are aspects of the story that I picked up on because I had already read the previous series, however, if you are being introduced to Ruth through this book, there are things that just aren't going to make sense. The pacing is jumbled, it's hard to follow the dialogue between some characters because it is not clear who is speaking. These are minor things that need to be ironed out. Again, I felt the same about Boarded Heart and as the series continued, I felt that it became easier to navigate because I was more familiar with each character and the overall plot of the series.

I'm confident the next two books in this series will only improve because I've seen what Ruth can write. I am very excited about the potential next couples. I mean, I have my predictions based on the interactions we see in Perfect Deke but I could be surprised with some twist. I have a feeling I am going to cry with Sawyer and I can't wait for him to find love.

I was provided an ARC copy to read of Perfect Deke by Wordsmith Publicity and Ruth. Thank you!
