Someone recommended this as a book Finlay Donovan fans would enjoy. And while I can see where they would make the connection between the two, Dial A for Aunties was sort of ridiculous. It was cheesy, and the plot kept leaping to unexpected places. Not unexpected like “wow what a twist!” More like “that’s stupid why would that be happening?” I really wanted to love it, but it was more of a 2.5 star read for me.

This book is a masterpiece. Ignore the stick-in-the-mud reviews. Yes, I'm sure this is an exaggeration/oversimplification of Chinese/Indonesian culture (the author's heritage.) Yes, the premise is absurd. So what? It is a slapstick comedy, and a brilliant one. Not many books have made me cry with laughter.
