LOVED this book. https://readinaflash.wordpress.com/2017/08/31/book-review-royally-screwed-by-emma-chase/

The book started out wonderfully, good intro to both characters. Their meet cute was funny and Olivia was a great heroine. However through 40% of the book everything was going so great it got dull, there was no real climax and the hero really didn't rise to the occasion. It's entertaining but not worthwhile. I do believe though the second book will be much more interesting. Henry's story is much more intriguing.

I actually enjoyed this! I did skip a lot of the dirty scenes honestly but the story was cute :)

3.5 Stars,,
This was an easy fast read. The conflicts and the end were clichés but so what. I knew I was reading a royal romance which has some tropes.

I liked Liv from the beginning and liked the world here. I loved the family relations on both sides and that the story contained some parts of hardships.

The romance was cute and I shipped them together. Nic did bad stuff sometimes but he was kind and had a good heart.

"The King of Genovia"...cracked me up!
There is a lot to love about this story! But that's totally expected from an Emma Chase book!

I somehow lost the review for this, but it is delicious fun. I was smiling the whole time. I adored Nicholas and Olivia and everyone around them. I am on the 3rd book right now, and so far this series is so damn good it is ruining me for other romances.

Fun, fluffy, funny

This book is fun, fluffy, and funny with just the right amount of sweet and sexy, which is exactly what the doctor ordered. It didn’t score a perfect 5 because it does get a tad too superficial at times and I never quite warmed to Olivia. I mean I didn’t hate her, but she’s one of those heroines I’ll probably forget. Sarah pops off the page more beautifully in her one scene that Liv does in the entire book.

My favorite part of the book however, was Nicholas, even though he was jerky multiple times. I loved his hilarious internal monologue and his scenes with the Queen and Henry are the best in the book! I might even listen to the audio immediately just for Shane East’s voice and that accent...sigh. I also fell in love with Simon and Franny’s story in one scene ❤️ Henry and Sarah and Logan and Ellie all endeared themselves to me and I can’t wait to read their stories!

Although I think the writing is lovely this novel gets 2 sad, predictable stars.

Lesson time:

A lot of people don’t know this but romance novels are the most difficult to write.

Romance is formulaic. That’s not necessarily a bad thing but it means that certain things are off-limit. Like, for example, it’s totally not acceptable to kill off your main characters. (Bummer, because there’s tons of romance novels that would be infinitely more interesting if the hero or heroine died.)

Writing good romance is art and I’ve really come to appreciate it in the past few years. Because of it’s formula, even on page 1, the reader knows how the book will end. Happily Ever After. The characters will kiss and makeup and whatever conflict they had going on in the past 300 or so pages will disappear by the time the Epilogue comes along.

So, what’s the point?

The point is that seeing two people fall in love is exciting. A good romance writer makes the reader giddy with hope and love and then crushes everything in the second half of the story. For a romance to be interesting the reader needs to feel like there’s no way out. Because the reader already knows it will end happily ever after, instead of wondering how it will end they need to be wondering “How the hell are they getting out of this mess?”

There’s a stage in romance plot development called “All hope is lost” and if it isn’t done right, the entire story falls apart.

That’s what happened with Royally Screwed.

I never once felt like they wouldn’t be able to work it out. It was too easy. Too predictable. This novel suffered from the “everything is perfect and nothing bad ever happens” disease. By the 70% mark I was skimming and staring at the progress bar and hoping it would just freaking end.

A very trope-tastic romance that is a perfect summer read. It's cute, sexy at times, and incredibly superficial. Sometimes, that's exactly what you need. When you prepare yourself to take nothing seriously then it's all fun. It's a fast read and definitely a book to help you get out of a reading slump. I've read better authors and stories but sometimes you're in the mood for something like this.
