As dark as the subject matter of a mass shooting in a mall can be, this had some really light & tender hearted moments. That’s the beauty of Nora Roberts. Reading her books is like slipping on your favorite sweats. Every damn time.

Reed was wonderful but Simone and their relationship fell a little flat for me. Patty was interesting but I almost would have rather been kept guessing who the secondary bad guy was going to be a bit longer. Still, I liked the take on two sisters warring and then forgiving over their shared but very different trauma and I enjoyed the fact that their fractured family dynamics weren't instantly healed overnight.

I was not prepared for this book. My heart was definitely not prepared. I spent the first 1/3 of this book crying. Something I try to avoid in a book but I’m so glad I bought this audiobook. The narrator is fantastic. Nora Roberts. Wow. This book pulled me in and I spent my whole weekend listening to it because I could not stop. And I needed to know what happened next. It’s a heartbreaking story that spans 14 years and has lots of tears, some laughs and a beautiful love story. I just don’t have the words to say how fantastic this book is.

Wow! Great start and then Nora Roberts delivered stellar writing again. Experienced every emotion from fear to laughter to joy throughout a well written book.

Heavy trigger warning for the first chapters involving the shooting. I cried when reading it because the trauma just felt so real. The rest of the book is a classic Nora Roberts, well written developed but not traumatic. If you want to read it but don't want to read the shooting, skip that part. While it helps you learn about the characters and really puts you in the story, I think you'd be okay understanding the overall plot.

Usually I devour Nora books but this one had an opening scene that was so vivid, I had to step away. While the writing is strong, the characters traditional Nora - dynamic, realistic, and well rounded, I just couldn’t seem to get into this book and it took me forever to finish. Maybe I was in a mood, the book was well written, it just didn’t hit me like her other books.

It was a very good book, however, the ending was very abrupt.
