For me it lacked the elegance and mystery of The Handmaid's Tale, but I found it to be a page-turner nonetheless, due to the continuation of the compelling environment that Atwood set-up in the first book. I was somehow glad to be once more transported to Gilead. It's not a masterpiece like the Handmaid's Tale, but I found it to be worth reading.
A very fitting sequel to The Handmaid’s Tale. Written in a similar style it tells us more about Gilead but from very different perspectives. In addition to filling out more of Gilead for us it also tells a compelling and in the end a love filled story.

The Testaments by Margaret Atwood is the thrilling, better-late-than-never sequel to The Handmaid’s Tale. Perfect for anyone who loves the Hulu Series, The Testaments follows the lives of three women nearly twenty years after the rise of Gilead.
Let me start by saying that I am a huge fan of The Handmaid’s Tale series. If you love the show, you will automatically feel attached to the characters in The Testaments and be eager to learn their fates and the future of Gilead. That being said, The Testaments differs from The Handmaid’s Tale novel in style and tone. It is not as mysterious or ominous as The Handmaid’s Tale, presumably because if you’ve watched the Hulu series you already know a lot about Gilead. Although many critics argue that the book isn’t necessary, I did enjoy diving into the lives of these characters, and I look forward to seeing how the Hulu series will incorporate this novel into the show.
