A fun quick read. Each short story felt like the jumping off point for a D&D campaign. I'm going to buy a copy for that purpose precisely. As thanks so much for your enduring creativity Ursula.
I stand by my disappointment that this didn't have an overarching plot. My favorite parts were definitely the ones in which the narrator was actually interacting with the people and the various planes, though I did enjoy the more descriptive/historical parts. Favorites: "Feeling at Home with the Hennebet", "Seasons of the Ansarac", "The Nna Mmoy Language", "The Island of the Immortals". I also adored the library setting of "Woeful Tales from Mahigul".

I don’t write many reviews, but this was so much more than I expected. I went into it expecting a usual story in some far off world promoting interesting questions like most Ursula Le Guin books do. But here I found a wonderful collection of scenarios. It may not be for everyone, since it does read as a collection of interesting prompts, while some may be looking for a cohesive story, but I loved it. World building is my favorite part of fantasy and science fiction, and this book did exactly that. Great book all around if interesting new worlds with questions and allegories are what you like.
