🎧 C.J. Grey & Jameson Adams (Listened on audio, and yes, it enhanced the madness)
Some books whisper sweet nothings.
This one whispers run.
And then it pulls you back in by the throat (but don't expect it to be a dark romance thrill-ride! It's not. Mostly silent, slow, dragging you under while you looked away to catch other details).
Sweet is marketed as dark romance—and sure, it’s got enough kink and obsession to melt the labels off your bookshelf—but let’s be honest: this isn’t your standard dark love story. This is a thriller, twisted through the lens of erotic obsession, and it will chew through your expectations before it’s halfway done.
This book doesn’t want to be your comfort read. It wants to crawl under your skin. It’s gritty, it’s depraved, and it’s definitely not here to hold your hand. What it does promise—clearly, if you read the trigger warnings—is danger, possessiveness, manipulation, and the kind of kink that isn’t always “yum” in a conventional sense. This is body and soul possession. Erotic in the most terrifyingly raw way. You are not being seduced—you are being claimed.
Cas? Total menace. Unapologetic psycho. He doesn’t care about your moral compass; he’s got his own, and it spins like a broken weather vane in a lightning storm. Will? Not exactly a beacon of stability, either. Their dynamic is unbalanced, electric, and very possibly cursed. And that’s the point.
Confused? Good. I spent 70% of the book confused out of my mind...and loving it. This story gaslights you right alongside the characters. You don’t know whom to trust, what’s real, or whether you should be horrified or turned on (spoiler: it’s both). Every chapter throws you into new chaos, and just when you think you’ve got a handle on what’s happening—boom. Curveball. System. Shocked.
Don’t go into this expecting resolution. Don’t expect clarity. Definitely don’t expect a love story wrapped in bows and promises. What you should expect is unhinged intensity, a plot that spirals like a fever dream, and characters who are absolutely drowning in their own obsessions. It’s hypnotic. And dangerous. And absolutely thrilling.
If you judge this book by what it actually set out to do—not what you wanted it to be—it delivers in spades. It doesn’t pretend to be wholesome or redemptive. It’s a story of obsession at its most chaotic, and I respect the hell out of that.
Would I recommend this to everyone? Not even close. But if you want your brain scrambled, your comfort zone dismantled, and your morality questioned while two (or more?) odd characters burn everything down around them—Sweet might just be your poison of choice

This was one of those books I started at midnight, and then stayed up until 4am reading. Oh man was it wild! I couldn’t put it down, literally - I fell asleep with it jn my hands. I woke up and had to finish it. This was such a unique book and it was just so fun, but in a dark way? Hahahah. I loved it though. And I always appreciate a book with Demi rep!
Well this certainly had me hooked. Didn't connect with the characters tho
Thanks, babe. I made this one just for you.

Instead of a "whodunit" this is more of a "whozit".
Two men find each other through an anonymous app, though they're looking for two completely different things. One is a serial killer, looking for his next prey --- and believes he found it in Will. One is looking for romance, or at least, his version of it. What happens when a serial killer and an obsessive sadist meet? Welp, read Sweet, and you'll find out.
After speaking for weeks through the app, Will reveals his name to Cas and shares a pic of a small section of his body that shows familiar tattoos. Cas realizes that he knows exactly who Will is, which throws a wrench in his plan to woo and then murder him. Cas tells Will his real name and that he knows Will personally, but Will doesn't recognize the name Cas as anyone he knows, but Cas tells him that Will knows him by another name, and won't tell him what it is.
The story progresses with Cas exploring new feelings he didn't think he could have, while Will (and the reader) is left trying to figure out who Cas is in "real life". The author does a really good job of making us go back and forth wondering which guy it is, especially in the beginning...giving what we might think are good hints...only to realize that technically it could still be any of the possibilities.
Through it all, we see murder, hot sex with a sadistic vibe, secrets, and deceit, all wrapped up in a nice not entirely neat package. The plot is amazing, and I really did love the twisty turny bits. There were a few sex scenes that contained some pretty unlikely/unrealistic situations, but it didn't take away from the story at all.
"Go ahead and love me, own me, fuck me however you want. I’ll be yours and I promise that won’t ever change. But if you fuck with me, with the trust I put in you, I will choke the life out of you and let them pick your body clean.”
I received an ARC of this book, my opinions are my own!
