What a cute romance. About a girl falling in love with the neighbor boy while writing her dissertation about true crime and cleaning her dead dads home. Adorable.
I wish Sam was actually a serial killer or there was a murder mystery element. I feel like the name of the book is a misnomer otherwise.

One and half stars because I finished it, but omg this was pretty bad. The main character was awful. The description on the back was misleading at best. She really only thought her neighbor was a killer for maybe one chapter. The love interest should have run far, far away at all the red flags. Authors really need to understand that “quirky” and “introverted” does not necessarily translate to just being mean to those around them. The MC’s obsession with true crime was bizarre and over the top. It was just an interest; it was her whole personality and actually concerning. I could tell the author was trying to be funny, but she wasn’t. All the pop culture name dropping was also really annoying and I feel like the author was just using the characters to give her opinions on all the things that maybe would have better served in a blog or a diary. It wasn’t organic to the story. I heard so many good things about this book but it was such a let down.

This is definitely a book geared towards elder-millennials. So if you're between 30 & 40 years old in 2024, you might very well find this book relatable and comical.

The writing is down-to-earth and relaxed, making it a quick read. The MCs reference emojis, gifs, memes and other pop culture references.

Dry humor and sarcasm are STRONG in the characters' banter back and forth...

I loved this book and devoured it in one day. The FMC was VERY relatable for me in a lot of ways... It's nice to have read a romance that makes me feel validated and seen. 🥰

I love true crime and I love romance. Not usually in the same sentence...

I felt like the romance between the two characters in this novel never really took off for me. There wasn't any of that delicious tension or build-up that I usually love in romance books.
