Wow, Zach and Austen's book was the worst of the books I've read in this series. The plot was utterly flimsy, which hardly anything at all happening until 80% of the story when the villain of the day reveals themselves in a scene so ridiculous that I actually considered DNFing the book right there.
I never was a fan of this series but I foolishly let myself get tricked over and over again that there might be a book with another couple that I would actually enjoy instead of being constantly disappointed by the "romance" and the constant mentioning of how amazing Dex was and taking the focus away from the supposed "main characters" in the story.
Well, at least that is over now and I'm finally washing my hands of THIRDS series and this author in general (I still might or might not finish Cael and Ash's story but that is it for me). Good riddance.
Themes: dual POV, shifters, government agency, forced proximity, meet the family

Well it started with a bang and turned into the love story for the ages and just as I started to wonder where all the action went, the bullets started flying. I loved this addition to the THIRDS universe with one of my all time favourite characters Austen and adorable teddy bear Zach. This was a sweet opposites attract story with Austen trying so hard not to give in to his feelings whilst Zach waited patiently for him to finally get with the plan. All whilst scheming Humans were planning to take them out. As a side note, the whole Zachary family were a riot - all 96 on them

I have not had good luck with this author and/or this series. The writing style does not seem to appeal to me at all -- it just doesn't work for me. It is hard to pin down exactly what I don't like about these books since on paper they are everything I usually really like. But I think its a combination of lack of chemistry (most MCs are exceptionally attractive and that is relied upon heavily and results in only lukewarm chemistry) and the humor that is often more silly and annoying than funny. I really did not believe that Austen was a deadly killer/spy as that trait appears abruptly before it quickly disappears. Zach was just way too nice and perfect ... perfect family ... just perfect. Their relationship was odd and difficult to understand. I also feel like I have read aspects of this story before ... it reminded me quite a bit of Rhys Ford's Sinners series. Also, there are quite a lot of characters (from previous books) that I could not place or remember ...
Despite really loving the concept and the premise of this particular book -- unfortunately, this book and this series did not deliver as I hoped. This unfortunately was just an okay read for me ...

4.5 Stars ~ I have loved snarky, foul-mouthed Austen from the first moment he appeared in a THIRDS novel, so since I consider myself a genuine THIRDS nerd, I have been desperately anticipating his story. Austen needs love just as much as all the other guys did and I couldn’t wait to see him find it. Of course, the fact that it was Dex and Sloane’s matchmaking that put Zach in Austen’s path didn’t hurt my desire to see it play out as I love those two men.
“If Austen didn’t put an end to this once and for all, he could end up falling for Zach, and when Zach saw, really saw, how messed-up he was, he’d run. And it would break Austen. He’d spent too long protecting what remained of his heart to take such a risk, especially when he knew what the outcome would be.”
Austen didn’t just close himself off to ever caring about anyone again after his parents threw him away when he was eight – no, instead he wrapped his heart in barbed wire and keeps everyone at far more than arm’s length. There are two people he truly cares for – Sloane Brodie and Oswald (Zach) Zachary. When Zach is injured while saving the life of a little girl whose father was targeted for assassination, Austen is at the hospital when two trained killers come to finish Zach off. Austen takes it upon himself to protect Zach and discover why he’s being targeted. But Austen doesn’t factor in the large, very large, bear Therian family Zach belongs to and that’s how Austen ends up in the mountains at the Zachary Lodge with the entire Zachary clan.
