The prose is dreamlike. It doesn't meander but take sharp turns so as to leave the reader feeling lost without a map. Eitan succeeds at creating a tone, but I don't know that the book had much new or special to say. The description of Libby's sex work is graphic. I appreciate that the novella doesn't turn away from her trade. I just didn't feel much when reading it. Eitan uses sex work to make literal the trade of women's bodies, but I feel like the novella fails to really dig deep into the realities of being a sex worker. It becomes so focused on the feminist message that it misses out on giving a stronger voice to Libby and real-life sex workers.

Maayan Eitan's Love is a sharp stream of consciousness that follows the story of Libby, a sex worker in Isreal. It forces the reader into an act of voyeurism--we see the rawness of her numbness, pain, and apathy that consumes her as she goes in and out of anonymous rooms. It is violent and unforgiving in its language and depiction of the violence of sex work and the pursuit of love afterward.

It's a challenging read to piece together, but something to mull over for the next few days. I read this in one sitting and will be rereading it again for a book club/buddy read.
