I'm taking off a quarter star because it left out the "Hello there" line. How dare you leave out Obi-Wan Kenobi's most iconic line? 😋

I am emotionally wrecked now even though I've seen those movies a thousand times. To get everyone's inner thoughts really adds to the story. And I'm glad the author acknowledged at the end that Anakin and Darth Vader aren't two separate people. Darth Vader is just who Anakin truly was all along. Also happy that we get Yoda admitting the stagnation of the Jedi Order was on him. Beautifully done.

Man do I loath Anakin Skywalker! I can't stand him! Thank you George Lucas for ruining what could have been a great character. The Republic fell because a 'man-child' fell in love; yep, nothing more, nothing less. A whiny child fell in love and the whole Universe had to pay for it.

In spite of my utter dislike for the main character, I now understand much better the depth of Palpatine's conspiracy. One can't help but admire the man. Great manipulator, patient and ruthless. And the Jedi, blind to all of it because when you sit on a high horse and have no desire to bend just a tiny bit, shit happens. "You were the chosen one!" exclaimed Obi-Wan at the end. So what? Chosen by whom, why? Obviously they had it wrong.

So, thank you Mr Stover for an entertaining story. For allowing me to get into the head of Palpatine, Obi-Wan, Yoda, Mace Windu, General Grievous and the rest. I understand them better. You did your best and better than George Lucas.

The dialogue was forced (no pun intended) and the ending fell flat, but the action was often mesmerizing and the characters were surprisinlgy nuanced, especially when compared to the movie's portrayal of the same characters. Not the best-written sci-fi adventure novel, but certainly enjoyable, and easily one of the best Star Wars novels I've read.

Movie novelizations aren't always top tier but this is one of the best exceptions. The movie Revenge of the Sith is a fan favorite, and for good reason. It also has some problematic issues throughout that Stover smooths over better than I would have expected. Throughout the book, we get to spend a little more time with many of the characters who deserve it, including a wonderful amount with Papa Palps, one of my favorite characters ever. What Stover gets right, he really gets right, especially the climactic ending and its significance for players on both sides of the force. The icing on the cake is that this is a full fledged production. It has sound effects, music, and voices which is so very appropriate for Star Wars. Hearing blaster shots in the background of a lightsaber duel or Vader's breathing during the last paragraphs about his transformation are exquisite. This would be my first recommendation for any Star Wars fan looking to read something beyond the movies.
