Due to the book 2 cliffhanger, I ran to start this one. But after that opener, I found myself feeling less engaged as the story with the shadow kind proceeded. Still good, but not as climactic as I expected.
One possible reason for that: there were a lot of POVs in this one, more than in the previous books. Too many, perhaps, including a growing number of one-offs with very minor characters to show events we would otherwise get only second-hand. Most of those scenes worked how they were intended, imo, so… fine. What I really wanted more from were the main character POV chapters! These were usually quite short, hardly long enough to settle in before changing perspective again, so it felt kind of disjointed. After several quick changes in a row I would put it down for a while, distracted, making for a slower read.
I would have liked to get more immersed in the main four and carrying the same perspective through more plot development would help with that imo, but again I did still enjoy the ending of the story and felt their arcs had good resolution.

i enjoyed this one, but i honestly think it was my least favorite of the three. the first was my favorite and the second was a slow start but appreciated and enjoyed.
i think this one has a lot of filler. we had a lot of new character perspectives and not all of them worked for me.
i did not care for
i enjoyed learning more about
i loved
i’m excited for the fragile threads of power. im happy lila will be featured in it, she was one of my favorite characters and i’m happy to follow her through that series.

Things I liked:
- Rhy
- Kell and his coat
- Lila finally having some character development
Ned's return - he drove me crazy at first but was a precious little bean by the end - Holland
finally getting some peace
Things I didn't like:
Sex on a boat - The same similes and metaphors used over and over again
No consequences for Lila killing that one other competitor in the games, even though it's mentioned at least once in this book!
I think I got too used to the world building of the likes of Brandon Sanderson and Katherine Addison. The previous book and this one could have delved more deeply into the various cultures present for the games and following crisis, but I never got a good sense of cultural differences between Arnesians and the others.
