The novella within a novella framing device didn’t really do much for me. This is the first techno-horror I’ve read from LaRocca, and it was decent.

Reminded me of a black mirror episode minus the deep unsettling message those tend to have. I felt the novella inside the novella was really disconnected; I think it would’ve been better if we just got the serial killer parts more fleshed out and as its own entity, and then the novella story more fleshed out and as its own entity. They were both interesting on their own, i just felt they had nothing to do with one another at all, and would’ve loved to read each one as a more fleshed out novella separately.
Overall I did enjoy the book. I am in the camp of enjoying Larocca’s books and writing.

Actually 3.5 because the writing was spectacular. The story is really like two stories, because it's a story within a story, within a story and I think there wasn't enough of any of them to make any one of them amazing. But, the words are beautiful, the settings well visualized and a lot of really great ideas. This was my first LaRocca and will not be my last.
