I know I’m in the minority here, but I just could not get into this book. I tried multiple times and the story just did not captivate me, which is shocking to me because the premise did, but maybe it was the execution? I did love the characterization and how real each character was. Maybe I’ll pick it up for a re-read some time and enjoy it more. It could just be that I wasn’t in the right headspace for this one at the time.

A strange and compelling book! It’s several stories weaved into one, and each one is as unique and extraordinary as the next. Take the time to read this and you’ll definitely be entertained.

How do you top a book like Deacon King Kong? Brilliant read.

It was ok. I liked The Good Lord Bird much better.

Good story. A little overly long and drawn out.

I actually really fell in love with this book. I was turned off at first, but as everything began coming into place and the characters became fleshed out, I couldn’t put the book down. The chapter Soup entered had me completely converted. It’s a warm, bittersweet book. I truly enjoyed it.

Almost was a DNF for me as I was not engaged in the first third of the book. About 1/2 way through I cared about the flawed characters and how their stories would unwind. Glad I stuck with it.
