Children of Time was a great novel, and this is just as good, if a little more succinct. Big questions are asked in this story about rogue warfare AI. Action, characters and philosophy all combine to make for a superb read.

I love this book and treated myself to the audio version which is excellent, a really great listen.

The hook of this story is Rex the dog/human bio form who can't make his own decisions and just wants to be told he's a good dog. But he breaks free from his contraints very early in the novel and something more complex evolves, both in him and in the story.

This book is such a treat, imaginatively rich, thought provoking, informative and challenging, with references to The Island of Dr Moreau and as well as various zoological text books (I feel I learned a lot about bees).
