great book as always....love her in death series and never figure out how they figure it out!

SOOOOOOO WELL DONE!!!!! A serial killer is back after a 9 year hiatus and Eve Dallas is on the case. The beginning of the book was HEAVY! Bringing in the killer and victims' perspectives, but the end I was legit GIDDY! Like jumping around, rooting for Eve and the team to get this guy. Such a good in death book!

This is one of her better books. The series was getting dull and this one spiced it up again.

The body of a young woman, marked by signs of prolonged torture, returns Lieutenant Eve Dallas to a case she worked 9 years earlier. A serial killer nicknamed "The Groom" for his habit of killing young brunette women & placing silver rings on their left hands, managed to elude Dallas & Feeney. He may have gotten away after his first New York killing spree, but Dallas is determined he won't be so lucky this time around. As the investigation progresses, links to stores & employees who work for Roarke lead Dallas to wonder if the killer's final target will be her.

Can't believe it's the 25th book in the series already & it's still great. The focus in this one was more on the case rather than personal lives but there was still enough time for a rare falling out between Dallas & Feeney over the case, & a visit from Dallas's BFF Mavis & baby daughter. My only complaint is that there was not enough Peabody/Dallas banter in this one.

"Eve has seen this crime scene before: the artfully arranged body of a young brunette, arms spread, palms up, body marked by the signs of prolonged and painful torture. Carved into her torso is the time it took her to die - in hours, minutes, and seconds. And on the third finger of her left hand has been placed a silver ring.

Eve is catapulted back to a case nine years earlier, when a man whom the media tagged “The Groom” put the city on edge with a killing spree that took the lives of four women in fifteen days. Eve and her partner Feeney, her friend and mentor, couldn’t stop him before he disappeared, only to resurface in other parts of the world to kill and kill again. But now The Groom seems to have come back to where he started.

When it turns out that The Groom’s most recent victim was employed by Eve’s billionaire husband, Roarke, she brings him onto the case. A move that proves fitting when it becomes chillingly clear that the killer has made it personal. The corpse was washed in products from a store Roarke owns and laid out on a sheet his company manufactures. With the Groom’s monstrous return, Eve is determined to finish him once and for all. Familiar with his methods, she knows that he has already grabbed his next victim.

But his sights are set on the biggest challenge of his illustrious career - an abduction that will test his skills and that promises to give him satisfaction as he’s never known. Time is running out on another woman’s life…and for Eve." (From Amazon)

I loved the investigation procedure so much in this one. Definitely one of my favorites. I think because I'm reading the series back to back I didn't miss the lack of personal interactions that usually take half of the book. The balance in this one was 80/20 but it worked really well

Creation in Death
3.5 Stars

A serial killer named The Groom returns after 9 years to terrorize the women of New York. As part of the original team that failed to capture him, Eve Dallas is determined to stop him before he kills his next victim. Little does she know that The Groom has his sights set on her.

This is difficult to say, but I may be burned out on serial killers *shock*

The particular homicidal maniac in this installment is rather uninspired with his obvious mommy issues and narcissistic sense of superiority. Although readers are given a number of details about the victims and their suffering, the actual descriptions of their torment seem almost mechanical, and it is difficult to care much about them. It is only with the final victim that her POV is presented, and one begins to empathize more deeply.

The police procedural aspects are run-of-the mill with Eve and her team chasing down leads on little to no sleep.

There is also very little in the way of character development and it is more of a rehash of older conflicts like Roarke's resentment over Eve's willingness to act as bait, and Feeney's injured pride over being left out of the loop. As always, everything is resolved satisfactorily and everyone is there for the final confrontation.

To conclude, although Creation in Death is an enjoyable read overall, there is nothing truly inspiring about the plot or the characters. Not one of Robb's better attempts.
